While traveling through picturesque Albert County in New Brunswick, Canada, one comes across countless beautiful churches. Heading south on highway #114, towards Fundy National Park a veritable natural history book opens itself for your viewing. Entering the quaint village of Riverside/Albert, we soon notice a beautiful cottage like Church on the west side of the road. St. Alban's Anglican Church is a treat for historians and architecture students alike. Although Gothic in architecture, it has somewhat of a Swiss and Old Europe flavor. The outside of the church is of old stone work. A sloping roofline ending in a canopy over the stain glass windows. The entrance is reached by several stairs going down from the road side, to a large wooden door, reminiscent of a fortress, topped by a stucco bell tower, spire and cross. Upon opening the door into a small stone porch or narthex, another wooden door opens into the nave of the church. The rich wooden colors inside the church are obviously the handy work of very dedicated and skilled craftsmen. The wooden ceilings are immaculate, following the roofline to a peak, giving the impression of wending it's way heavenward. The rood screen, made of beautiful wooden posts and beams, are also inlaid with a lighter laminated wood.
